Bounding the Size and Probability of Epidemics on Networks

چکیده

We consider an infectious disease spreading along the edges of a network which may have significant clustering. The individuals in the population have heterogeneous infectiousness and/or susceptibility. We define the out-transmissibility of a node to be the marginal probability that it would infect a randomly chosen neighbor given its infectiousness and the distribution of susceptibility. For a given distribution of outtransmissibility, we find the conditions which give the upper (or lower) bounds on the size and probability of an epidemic, under weak assumptions on the transmission properties, but very general assumptions on the network. We find similar bounds for a given distribution of in-transmissibility (the marginal probability of being infected by a neighbor). We also find conditions giving global upper bounds on the size and probability. The distributions leading to these bounds are network independent. In the special case of networks with high girth (locally tree-like), we are able to prove stronger results. In general, the probability and size of epidemics are maximal when the population is homogeneous and minimal when the variance of inor out-transmissibility is maximal.

Estimating Reliability in Mobile ad-hoc Networks Based on Monte Carlo Simulation (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Each system has its own definition of reliability. Reliability in mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET) could be interpreted as, the probability of reaching a message from a source node to destination, successfully. The variability and volatility of the MANET configuration makes typical reliability methods (e.g. reliability block diagram) inappropriate. It is because, no single structure or configurat...

A Sociological Study on the Effect of the Facebook for Bounding Social Capital among the Youth

Face book is virtual and cybernetic network which causes an effective force and among the youth. It shows that if the usage of the face book network increases at home the rate of the interaction and the bounding social capital decreases as well. It also indicates that the effect of face book usage among the young people has increased already. Through a questionnaire by a survey method, more tha...

Analytic calculations of epidemic properties in some clustered networks

We develop a technique that predicts the probability P and attack rate A of epidemics as well as the size distribution of non-epidemic outbreaks and the growth rate R0 in networks with a specific form of clustering. The networks contain triangles, but no other short cycles, including no triangles that share edges. This is a strong constraint, but it allows us to make analytical predictions. The...

Security Analysis of the Distance Bounding Protocol Proposed by Jannati and Falahati

In this paper, the security of a distance bounding protocol is analyzed which has been recently proposed by Jannati and Falahati (so-called JF). We prove that an adversary can recover key bits of JF protocol with probability of “1” while the complexity of attack is “2n” runs of protocol. In addition, we propose an improved protocol and prove that the improved protocol is resistant to mafia frau...

On Passive Quadrupedal Bounding with Flexible Linear Torso

This paper studies the effect of flexible linear torso on the dynamics of passive quadruped bounding. A reduced-order passive and conservative model with linear flexible torso and springy legs is introduced. The model features extensive spine deformation during high-speed bounding, resembling those observed in a cheetah. Fixed points corresponding to cyclic bounding motions are found and calcul...
